Post disaster coconut tree damage assessment using multi temporal UAV images

UAV images really helpful to assess the coconut tree damages at cadastral level. The pilot study was conducted in Moothekurichy Village, Pattukkottai Taluk in Thnajavur District.

The pre disaster UAV images are captured for the purpose of identifying flood prone area on 05.09.2018 in the same area UAV images captured after the GAJA cyclone attacks.

To calculate the tree count damages accurately cadastral maps and FMB (Field Measurement Book) were collected TamilNadu settlement and land record deportment and overlaid with pre and post cyclone UAV images.

The study adopted automatic tree count for pre disaster UAV data that reduced field survey time.

The study found that 55.54% of the coconut tree damaged in survey number 2 and the relevant subdivision of the village.

This kind of assessment will help the government to assess damage accurately and quickly compensation of the damage can be easily calculated based on the derived statically record.
